Recycling PaperHave you ever wondered where does used paper go? We use paper in different from and for different use. At home we read newspaper, magazines, journals and kids read books and write notebooks. At offices tons of paper gets used on a daily basis. After their use paper finds its way in home trash bins and finally to local city dumpster. The next stop for used paper is the recycling paper facility. The daily trash accumulated at the city dumpster is moved to a recycling facility. In some cities waste management companies working in tandem with the city governing authority move trash from home directly to the recycling facility. Regardless what method is being used to move waste paper from homes and business to the recycling facility? It still goes through the same process of recycling. At the recycling facility all kinds of paper is sorted out by color and thickness. In order to use this waste paper as recycled paper a deinking process is implemented to separate ink from paper. The deinking process is nothing but to remove ink from the paper fibers. Under this process a multi mechanical process coupled with chemical process is used to detach ink from the paper fiber. However this deinking process on recycled papers work only 4-6 times before the paper fiber are so thin and short that they can’t be put together into a usable paper. Recycling paper is important to our environment, it impacts at two ends. First our 90 percent consumption of paper is based on wood. That means lot of wood needs to be cut, processed and made ready for use. This puts the environment at risk. The other impact is the waste disposal, huge amounts of waste paper ends up at recycling facility on a daily basis. Both of these factors are important for our environment and for our health. The use of recycled paper and recycled paper products reduces our dependence on wood. The other benefit is consumption on energy in recycling waste paper as compared to making new paper. Apart from these two benefits the awareness in public about recycling paper and its benefit is another bonus point. The other side benefits are less use of landfills and less water pollution. The traditional method of dumping waste paper on landfills or letting drain it through sewages used to pollute the under ground water. What recycling paper brings to society is less population, consumption of energy and water, less trees cut down and new technology jobs. |
